What are Soakways?

Storms and heavy rain are quite common in this country. The rain water from building roofs, patios and driveways has to drain away somewhere. If not connected to the main sewer line, or directly into a running course (stream, river) it will empty and naturally filter into the soil through means of a soak-away. A soak-away is an open area underground formed usually with special crates, membrane and shingle allowing water run off from roofs and solid ground works to safely and conveniently drain away, keeping above ground free from puddling. Installation of new and existing 'failed' soak-aways are available, the size of which will be dependent on the amount of water needed to be discharged.

How is Land Drainage?

If you have pooling in your garden, on your land, or want to add some extra storm water to a field then land drainage is an option. Using perforated pipe wrapped in membrane to stop soil and root infiltration, the pipe acts as a soak-away and can be formed into a herringbone or grid system to allow for a more even spread of this vital nutrient.
